Acrylic primers v's PVA
DID YOU KNOW?
PVA PRIMERS are NOT suitable or recommended for use with ready mixed tile adhesives, cement-based tile adhesives or levelling compounds.
This is because when PVA is applied, it forms a skin which becomes a barrier to adhesion. In addition, when PVA comes into contact with a wet adhesive or levelling compound, it will re-emulsify and reduce the overall bond strength between the adhesive/leveller and the background. The end result could be a failure of the installation.
Always use an acrylic primer such as DUNLOP MULTI-PURPOSE PRIMER, which is absorbed into the background, creating a strong and stable surface for tiling and levelling.

    Simply don’t mix or spread more than you can use in the set time and you don’t have to waste it, if your a lot slower then go for something like kerakoll h40 which gives you loads of time

    Hi There. I like your video. thanks. QUESTION ? I am doing a small tiling job. only x 2 square meters bathroom floor. I want to know ? Is there any multi purpose adhesive which I could use for both - sticking on waterproof decoupling membrane onto a concrete subfloor and also using the same adhesive for sticking tiles on top of it ?

    • @DunlopTrade

      Thank you for your question. For the bonding of a waterproof uncoupling system to concrete, we would first recommend that the concrete has a functioning DPM, is a minimum of 6 weeks old, and is clean and free from all contaminants such as plaster droppings, dirt and debris. Next, apply a primer to the concrete, we recommend Dunlop Multi Purpose Primer diluted at 1:1 by volume with clean, cold water. For bonding the uncoupling membrane, Dunlop CF03, Rapid Setting Flexible Cement based Adhesive may be used, or Dunlop CF24, Slow Setting, Flexible Cement Based Adhesive. Mix the adhesive as per instruction, (as found on the bag) and then spread on the floor using a 4mm notched trowel. Apply the membrane, such as Ardex Indortec Flexbone VA to the adhesive and depress firmly. Once installed, either of the above mentioned adhesives may be used to install the tiles. For the perfect finish, use Dunlop GX500 Flexible Wall and Floor Grout with FX90 Sealant to all corners and abutments.

    • @DunlopTrade

      Once the Dunlop Shower Waterproofing system has been installed and is dry (min 24hours following application of the second coat), install the tiles using Dunlop CF24. It is important when installing the tiles onto fixtures such as shower trays and baths, that a small expansion gap is allowed for the application of the Dunlop FX90 Sealant. This small joint will allow for a sharp utility knife to be carefully used to cut away all excess masking tapes and applied waterproofing paste , prior to application of the silicone sealant.

    • @DunlopTrade
      @DunlopTrade 9 месяцев назад

      Thank you for your question…. For many floor coverings and such as Tiling and LVT, it is often required to overlay the floor prior to installation to stabilise the floor or provide a more suitable platform. Although Dunlop LX360 can be used on single layer timber floors, if your floor is not suitable, or you have gaps, you may wish to consider the following. For resilient flooring, including LVT and Vinyl, overlay the floor using a minimum of 6mm Flooring Grade Ply. Apply one undiluted coat the Dunlop Multi-Purpose Primer. Alternatively, Dunlop Universal Bonding Agent may also be applied, two coats, diluted at 1:2 by volume with clean water. Then mix and install the Dunlop LX360 product. For the installation of Ceramic or Porcelain tiles, a tile backerboard is preferred, such as BAL Board 6mm. Ensure the tongue and groove floorboards are secured, and then prime with 2 x undiluted coats of Dunlop Multi-Purpose Primer before installing the Tile Backerboard using Dunlop CF03 and mechanically fix at 300mm centres. Dunlop Multi-Purpose Primer can then be used on the surface of the backerboard, diluted at 1:1 by volume with clean water, prior to mixing and installing Dunlop LX360. Please note, if the floor has excessive movement and deflection, additional preparation may be required.

    Why don't you show in the promo fully cured grout? When it's wet it has almost even colour, but when it's dry it is AWFUL!!! Used mist gray and graphite gray, in the kitchen and bathroom, and both are uneven in colour. Some joints are lighter, some darker. There is white dust in joints here and there that don't come off. Joints look messy. Extremely unhappy with this product

    Have a 20sq metre bedroom (wooden floor) where there is an old levelling compound that has been laid many years ago and has severely cracked and parts coming away. In some places the level needs to be around 30mm, others 5mm, so this product seems ideal. Can you advise if this would be OK to lay on top of old leveller and a rough guide to how many bags. Thank you

    • @DunlopTrade
      @DunlopTrade Год назад

      Thank you for your question…. Firstly, any timber floor needs to be stable and free from deflection. Secondly, it is extremely difficulty for us to guarantee our system when installing over other “failed” products. It is concerning that the existing levelling compound has cracked and “come away”, this would certainly indicate excessive movement in the floor, in which case the LX-360 product may suffer a similar fate, in time. It may be prudent to overboard the existing timber floor with a 6mm tile backer board such as BAL Board 6mm. This would be installed with a thin layer of tile adhesive (using a 6mm notched trowel) such as Dunlop CF-03 and then mechanically fixed using non-corrosive screws (300mm centres). Once installed, prime the face (dull side) with Dunlop Tilers Primer pre diluted at 1:1 and then install the Dunlop LX-360 to the desired depth. At 15mm in thickness (on average) you will require approximately 22 x 20kg units. However, please note this can vary on depths required and is not inclusive of any excess you may need.

    • @DunlopTrade
      @DunlopTrade Год назад

      Thanks for your question. Whilst technically speaking you could use a 1mm spacer, you will find it difficult to compact the joints with such limited space. Design is of course down to personal preference, but we would suggest a 2 - 3mm spacer which is the norm when installing a metro tile.

As you point out, there may be the option to utilise a plastic trowel here, which may indeed minimise risk of damage to the cables, however there is nothing wrong in using a steel trowel, dependent on the experience and ability of the installer.

    Does this product replace backer boards on plywood subfloors

    • @DunlopTrade
      @DunlopTrade Год назад

      Any suspended timber floor needs to be securely fixed and deflection free, before installing any proprietary tiling system. On 18mm (min) suitable flooring grade plywood, providing stable and secured, the Dunlop Pro Cover product can be used, to provide lateral stress relief and anti-fracture properties. Simply install with Dunlop CF03 adhesive (using a 4mm serrated trowel), press the membrane firmly into the adhesive and tiling can begin immediately. Please be aware that Uncoupling Systems such as Dunlop Pro Cover are not designed to irradicate deflection in suspended floors. We would suggest using a 12mm Tile Backer Board (installed with manufacturers guidance) if you feel the floor requires extra rigidity. For further advice from one of our Technical Support Managers, please feel free to contact us on 01782 591120 or visit www.dunloptrade.com

    • @DunlopTrade
      @DunlopTrade Год назад

      Cement based systems are generally “non combustible” however, not all cement based products carry the A1 Non Combustible Fire Rating, as there is generally no requirement, unless using around a Fire Place for example. If you need the A1 rating, then you may wish to consider a suitable Tile Backer Board, such as BAL Board, which carries the rating you require. However, on the floor, in the living space adjacent to a fire place, there is generally no requirement for the A1 Fire Rating.

    Can this be used instead of other uncoupling membranes such as Ditra? Whats the difference?

    • @DunlopTrade
      @DunlopTrade Год назад

      Dunlop Pro Cover is indeed an uncoupling system in much the same way as the product you mentioned…. The clear difference is that “traditional, fleece-backed, plastic cavity based”, uncoupling systems have dual function i.e. uncoupling and waterproofing when used with ancillary tapes etc. Dunlop Pro cover is non-cavity based, ultra-thin (less than 1mm) and is an uncoupling system only, but because there are no cavities to fill you will notice a 20% reduction in adhesive consumption and installation time, compared with plastic, cavity-based systems. Installation is the same too, simply prepare the background, apply Dunlop Tilers Primer (as per instruction), mix a cement based flexible adhesive such as Dunlop CF03 (as per instruction), apply using a 4mm notched trowel and then depress the Pro Cover membrane firmly into the adhesive, “butt jointing” the mat, with no additional tapes required. If you do wish to make the Pro Cover product waterproof, then simply apply two coats of the Dunlop Shower Waterproofing paste, found within the Dunlop Shower Waterproofing Kit.

      Unfortunately, both, our Acrylic “Tilers Primer” Primer and SBR “Universal Bonding Agent” are not designed to be used on such systems. Our primers are used on porous substrates such as concrete and sand/cement screeds for example, to reduce porosity and enhance performance, open time, flow rate, finish etc etc…… You may need to refer to Sika for their advice with regards to preparing said product prior to using a smoothing and levelling compound.

To prime, use 2 coats of undiluted DUNLOP Tilers Primer or 2 coats of DUNLOP Universal SBR Bonding Agent (diluted 2 parts water to 1 part DUNLOP Universal SBR Bonding Agent by volume). Each coat must be left to dry before applying the second coat. Visit www.dunloptrade.com/tiling for further information on application and preparation.

    Can u add water to the powder, make any difference?

      Thanks for your enquiry. It's always better to add the correct water first and then gradually add the powder in small amounts to help with achieving the correct mix. This will ensure that no powder will be left at the bottom of the mixing bucket.

    Is it okay to use leveling compound for primary purposes; for example applying in my garage without following up with tile or any other installs after level compound application. Is it okay to drive over with a car? Thx

      I am sorry but the DUNLOP Levelling compounds are not suitable as a wearing surface and must have a tile finish.

    Couldn’t make enough money on tennis balls, so now they make tile adhesive?
